I work outside at night, usually.

Last night was quite chilly (below freezing). But there was almost no wind so the cold did not bite. The moon was bright (2 days till a full moon)  even through the thin clouds, which eventually drifted away.

The foundry behind my post was, for some reason, making no noise for the first several hours of my shift.

A beautiful calm reigned over the earth bathed in delicate luminescence from the orb which rules by night (Genesis 1:14-19). No criminal activity interrupted the scene. No emergencies arose. The same held for the mobile patrol, who commented that the stillness had an almost eerie effect as she travelled the patrol area outside town.

What a living parable of the presence of the calming Spirit of Jesus.

“Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. Then God’s peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7 God’s Word, italics added).
