Today, July 24, 2017, I listened to an episode of Ideas on CBC Radio. The topic was gender portrayal in video games.

I do not play any online games, or any of the graphic heavy games available, so I am naive about what these games are.

There was a lot to take in, but the one thing which horrified me was the discussion about Grand Theft Auto. All the playing characters are male. Women are mostly prostitutes who are used sexually to improve the health of the male characters. What happens next is what made me gasp; the prostitutes are then viciously murdered so the male character can take back the money paid for services!

I know, I shouldn’t be surprised at the depravity of the human species since we live in a broken world where sin is rampant. And there are real-life horrors I should focus on, someone may say. But these games reflect the human condition as the game inventors see it, and market them and how some gamers view life.

God save us from humanity!

“O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin” (Romans 7:24-25 KJV).
