Joel Best and Kathleen Bogle are authors of the new book “Kids Gone Wild: From Rainbow Parties to Sexting, Understanding the Hype Over Teen Sex”.
On September 16, 2014 Jeni Marinucci wrote about this book:
“The truth is that fewer kids are having sex than we were at their age. We were a generation of horny rabbits with unrestricted access to a Spanish fly warehouse in comparison. “Kids Gone Wild” points out the decrease in sexual activity between generations, reporting a drop from 51 to 43 per cent for sexual activity in girls aged 15-19 from 1988 to 2010. Boys in the same variables dropped to 42 per cent from 60. Kids who had sex before age 13 came in at 6.2 percent in 2011. Twenty years prior that number was 10.2.”
Is it possible that God is doing a mighty thing against the horrible things on television, the horrendous things readily available on the internet and undoing the movie portrait of immorality?
Is your prayer voice helping, or do your viewing habits contribute to the problem?
Hmm.

Actually, Toronto is probably the biggest centre, but a lot of production happens in Vancouver, too. I have actually seen TV shows and movies being made while I studied in downtown Toronto, seeing the front of buildings get “new” names, and lines of production vehicles. I never saw a star in this context, though. As for the French language industry, Montreal is the big one.

My viewing habits help and due to just not having time. Also because I gave us all of prime time watching for the most part.
I’ve gotten to an older age and though I have more time for leisure, I am compelled to NOT spend that time in front of the TV or movies.
I only want to watch story that is redeeming.
That brings me to a totally unrelated question: where is the Hollywood of Canada?

While that is one of the points drawn by the commentator, my point is twofold: let’s stop letting media in its various forms from telling us what is “true”; and are people who name the name of Jesus actively supporting a moral lifestyle, or do we, in fact, live as consumers of the immorality available, giving profits to the perpetrators so that they can produce more!?
I agree with the point you raise, but I found the research intriguing for the challenge it presents in how we talk about morality and, what if the statistics do present a picture of God at work in ways beyond our vision?
I do appreciate your reading and comment, so please do not consider that I am opposing your view – I’m not. I’m just wondering…
Peace

I guess I’d say that the numbers are themselves only the products of sample surveys and such, and thus aren’t necessarily true reflections in the first place. I mean, seriously, why do we constantly think that because we poll a few thousand people, that we actually know the true sexual habits of millions upon millions of people? I dunno. Even if these percentages have gone down in the manner being reported, to me it seems that the main point of that article is really to disparage parents from caring about the sexuality of the kids overall.
“Yes, parents: Sex is not a bear who wants to eat your child. It’s more like a fluffy little dog everyone wants to pet and take home and who most will treat properly”
Sorry lady, I’d have to disagree!
