Humans spend a lot of effort to extend the length of stay in this life.
Diets, exercise regimens and medicine become tools in the search for long life.
When age shows its face anyway people turn to make-up, hair dye, skin creams and fad clothing to hide that we are nearer the end of life than the beginning.
However, a life that fully satisfies surely rises above a life that fills many calendars!
“Then Jesus called the crowd to himself along with his disciples. He said to them, ‘Those who want to follow me must say no to the things they want, pick up their crosses, and follow me. Those who want to save their lives will lose them. But those who lose their lives for me and for the Good News will save them. What good does it do for people to win the whole world yet lose their lives? Or what should a person give in exchange for life?’ ” (Mark 8:34-37 God’s Word©).
Are you seeking cautiously to save your life, playing it safe when justice should be pursued, or walking to the cross full of Christ to save your soul with adventurous loving (true living) for Jesus?

Yes, the Bible seems to have a lot of references to the challenge not to live for personal gain as an ideal to strive for. Enough said, indeed, and now to strive for the doing it that way.

And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. (2 Cor 5:15)
’nuff said, I think.

Good point, which I hadn’t thought of when I wrote this.

Thanks for connecting with me. I haven’t heard that song for quite a while now; it used to be on our local Christian radio a lot, but hits move on. You make me realize I should have referred to 1 Samuel 16:7, “People look on the outside, but God looks at the heart [thoughts]”.

Reminds me of the song lyrics, “I don’t want to gain the whole world and lose my soul.” God does not look at what is on the outside, but on the inside, and we don’t worry nearly enough about that. Seems we should.
