Is it possible the Biblical laws were never intended to be “Followed”?
My thermometer last winter.
It seems to me that the call for people to love God and each other (Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18) was not new for Jesus. It seems to me the laws always were a thermometer or something – I love God, but how do I know/show it? Oh, you mean if I do things that show deep respect, compassion, and loyalty I am on the right track? It always started with loving God which included loving my neighbour.
“We love because God loved us first. Whoever says, ‘I love God,’ but hates another believer is a liar. People who don’t love other believers, whom they have seen, can’t love God, whom they have not seen. Christ has given us this commandment: The person who loves God must also love other believers” (1 John 4:19-21 God’s Word).

Alas, we do fall short, but that means focus more on the One Who Is Love and it might rub off on us a little more. That might benefit someone!

Love, love, love. Whatever we do, if it’s not done in love, we’d be better off to sit down and shut up! Otherwise we’re nothing but a lot of noise and hot air…and it benefits no one. You’ve pegged this one!

The truth is we do get caught up in law (so Paul had strong teaching on that). But the real truth is love from God and for God. I love that Truth!

AMEN!!! Love is absolutely the core of what our redemption is all about. Yes, He loved us first and if love is not what we are preaching, I dare to say we are not preaching TRUTH. Thank you for this!
