In Barton Creek Cave in Belize I remember that the light we carried in the canoe was the only light we had. Without the headlamps that underground world would have been nothing but a black blanket.
It brought to mind the book “The Spiritual Life” by Andrew Murray. It contains talks to seminary students in Chicago in 1895.

“Certainly I urge you to be faithful in your study and use your time well, and I would urge you to use every opportunity for getting acquainted with that precious Word. Yet I say, first and last, everything depends upon your living in the light of God’s presence, in the light of God’s love, and waiting until you have the heavenly treasure in your heart – God shining there, in the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. May every act of faith in Christ lead you up to God, and stir you to wait upon the everlasting God to reveal Himself more fully. Let there be a holy hunger and thirst of your heart after God and after a life like that of Christ’s, living every hour in fellowship with the Father and in dependence upon Him. Oh what a blessed work the work of the ministry. What a blessed work, proclaiming the salvation of Jesus Christ. The humblest teacher or Bible reader can go to others, carrying not only the Bible, but the very light of God – shining into him and out of him. A kerosene lamp is not made merely to be lit, but to carry the light. In the same way I carry the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in my heart; I carry Jesus Christ Himself; I carry the glory of God. Dear friend, the most precious thing you have in your heart, and the most blessed thing you can desire, is to have God fill your earthen vessel with His heavenly treasure” (CLC Edition, 1986, pages 124-125).
“You are light for the world. A city cannot be hidden when it is located on a hill. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket. Instead, everyone who lights a lamp puts it on a lamp stand. Then its light shines on everyone in the house. In the same way let your light shine in front of people. Then they will see the good that you do and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16 God’s Word).
Are you a hidden light, or do you light the hidden things that need to be seen?
