I just read on NBC.com the story of a 92 year-old Roman Catholic priest who was stripped of his priestly duties. He did not commit a crime. No action of his was illegal under civil law. His sin was not bigotry or ageism or even sexism. So why can he not act like a priest anymore?

He acted in good conscience on what I consider solid Biblical principles. He defied Canon Law which moves people away from following Jesus at times. He officiated at a Mass with a woman priest.

Yes, that’s right. He worshipped God with a woman who was called to serve as a pastor.

“Brennan, who lives with other retired Jesuits in the Milwaukee area, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he understood the risks when he decided to perform a liturgy alongside a woman priest.

“ ‘Sometimes in our lives we have to trust our conscience and bring about the consequences,’ he told the newspaper”.

Not being Roman Catholic I have no way to fight the system to support the priests who keep defying the ungodly rules of the institution, but I will keep praying.

I, too, have been refused the right to serve as a Pastor because I defied the culture of the organization, and that was the only “crime”.

Here I am not so frustrated with organized religion as I am with people who file in and out of buildings and “worship” God while supporting immoral actions, unbiblical rules and arrogant humans who set their ideals above the Scriptures.

“No one calls for justice,
and no one pleads his case truthfully.
People trust pointless arguments and speak lies.
They conceive trouble and give birth to evil” (Isaiah 59:4 God’s Word).

“You mortals, the Lord has told you what is good.
This is what the Lord requires from you:
to do what is right,
to love mercy,
and to live humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8 God’s Word).

Where are the people of God who will do right, pay whatever price for faithful living and defend those abused and humiliated by unjust human traditions?
