Over the years I have come to the conclusion that I have no real regrets for anything of the past. Now, if I dwell on some incident I can easily begin to second guess what happened and imagine how it could have been handled to avoid the pain and trouble.
But…
When I do such a time-wasting exercise two terrible things happen:
- I forget I am having fun right now, despite all the past persecution and personal shortcomings;
- I call God a liar.
How’s that?
“The Lord is compassionate, merciful, patient, and always ready to forgive.
He will not always accuse us of wrong or be angry {with us} forever.
He has not treated us as we deserve for our sins or paid us back for our wrongs.
As high as the heavens are above the earth — that is how vast his mercy is toward those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west — that is how far he has removed our rebellious acts from himself”
(Psalm 103:8-12 God’s Word).
When I keep remembering what God has forgotten, that is sheer folly. So instead I choose to believe God does not lie.
I am forgiven. Free from past sin and trouble I will thrive in the now, because of Jesus who died to sin so I could live free.
Jesus rose again to keep me company. Therefore I will not dwell on the stinking stuff that offends my best friend.
Hey God! Whatever happens today is a good day with You, with You.
