People don’t like to obey the law. Many even express pride at how they broke the law, and got away with it.
For instance, many times I have been in a clergy meeting and there’s been a bragging session about how quickly a trip was made, achieved only by speeding. Apparently Romans 13:1-7 (obey the government when it enforces God’s principles) has no authority about such things because it is, after all, a command.
Likewise some people still don’t wear seat-belts. They still talk on their cellphones while driving.
To make matters worse, religious people don’t like anyone pointing out their sin, civil or spiritual. Gossipers justify their sin. Kangaroo church courts claim ecclesiastical authority while ignoring Matthew 18:15-17 (how justice must happen for believers). Liars get away with it. Adulterers are unrepentant.
It sticks in my mind a conversation I had with a hotel manager. He said when a church conference comes to town he has to add more porno movies because of the heavy use. They obviously ignore the law Paul pointed out, “Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: illicit sex, perversion, promiscuity, idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions, envy, drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I’ve told you in the past and I’m telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21 God’s Word).
When you do such things it appears you were only joking about wanting to serve Jesus here and then go to heaven.
So, what laws do you ignore? And when you ignore God’s law, do you really think you can get away with it?
