Today is Remembrance Day. While always important to me, this year is different.
Only days ago two Canadian soldiers were targeted and killed, on Canadian soil, one in our nation’s capital (Ottawa).
So our military family members went to the ceremony in full uniform, undeterred by these murders. I went to school with some of my grandchildren for their Remembrance Assembly, wearing my uniform of the Royal Canadian Legion.
“In the world you’ll have trouble. But cheer up! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 God’s Word©).
We can wither up when trouble comes. We can lash out violently. We can isolate ourselves from everyone else.
OR
we can forge ahead, together, with hope.
Like the military parts of our family, I choose not to be defeated.
May you rest upon Almighty God to hold you, carry you, keep you in good times and bad.

Yes, the 2 Canadian soldiers were targetted because they were in uniform. Some intelligence on the 2 perpetrators was known, but I think since we have never known this kind of attack before it was difficult to put it into motion. The orders for military people not to wear uniforms except on base has been revised to optional.

Oh my, so anyone is uniform could be targeted. But are they trained to be ready to respond? Not, I assume.
Intelligence gathering and tracking has got to become much larger. I hate some of what has happened in USA with the NSA but I know data has prevented some big attacks here.

Actually, some changes are being made, but our family members in the military are convinced that some things should stay the same (like wearing uniforms in public) just to show we are not beaten. And the reality is our government has chosen to turn from peace-keeping to combat response, a huge shift in policy, and so it leaves us a target like we didn’t used to be. May God make us wise.

That was a sad day for Canada. I pray it makes your intelligence services (don’t know actual names) just that much more intelligent so that these events can be prevented in the future.

It was quite a time, but I was reminded again that God cares.
