Yesterday Ontario (Canada) held an election. To the surprise of everyone it resulted in a majority government. Already I am reading vicious comments. I have my opinion, but…
“1 Every person should obey the government in power. No government would exist if it hadn’t been established by God. The governments which exist have been put in place by God… 4 The government is God’s servant working for your good… 5 Therefore, it is necessary for you to obey, not only because you’re afraid of God’s anger but also because of your own conscience. 6 That is also why you pay your taxes. People in the government are God’s servants while they do the work he has given them. 7 Pay everyone whatever you owe them. If you owe taxes, pay them. If you owe tolls, pay them. If you owe someone respect, respect that person. If you owe someone honour, honour that person” (Romans 13:1-7 God’s Word ©).
Christians, I weary of your arrogant putdown of political leaders, especially the fear-mongering and the half-truths and the outright gossip/lies.
Sure, in my feeble humanity I can wonder out loud how God could place certain governments in power. But the Bible says God has a hand in human politics. So I accept that. Political leaders are people with souls and deserve our love and prayer, not our toilet-level mouth-diarrhea.
So let’s defend the vulnerable, love the outcast, pay our taxes, yearn for justice and live with mercy.
Any half-wit can whine and complain. Paraclete has a higher plan and deeper affection. If you claim the name of Jesus, act with honour and respect.
“Everything you say or do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17 God’s Word ©).

Good point. Complaining is a hobby and easy. Praying is spiritual work.

I think if we prayed for our leaders as much as we criticized them, things would be very different. Paul said we are to make intercession for our leaders “first of all”… Blessings

Yes, Jesus stands always as the way to do things, and he said, “Forgive them” even when they murdered him without legal cause. That is hard in some parts of the world where government is more a problem than a protector, but Jesus didn’t call us to do the easy thing – but the right thing.
Thank you for your blessing.
Peace

Very powerful. I think we Christians all over the world are guilty of this…tongue-lashing our elected leaders in government.
The whole Bible should be used to equip the saint and no excuses whatsoever. Even our own Almighty Lord did not sisrespect the leadership of His time in Judea and He held His peace to the death. Who are we?
God bless you.
