It happens that today I celebrate my birthday. I’ve reached 85.714% of what Moses wrote was a human lifespan.

“Each of us lives for 70 years –
or even 80 if we are in good health.
But the best of them {bring} trouble and misery.
Indeed, they are soon gone, and we fly away” (Psalm 90:10 God’s Word).

Today friends will gather around for some chili, biscuits and sweets. On the weekend family will “pay their respects” 🙂

On the one hand life has a wondrous glow about it. Yet, as Moses observes under God’s Spirit, “trouble and misery” fill every waking moment.

As wonderful as Jesus is, too often I “have fallen short of God’s glory” (Romans 3:23 God’s Word). All too often forces for evil ambush me and cause great trauma. So I echo Moses to say:
“Make us rejoice for as many days as you have made us suffer,
for as many years as we have experienced evil” (Psalm 90:15 God’s Word).

Yet, as I walk with Jesus my hope soars. Perhaps I will do better today. Perhaps evil will not win a battle today.

So I pray, as Moses also prayed, to “Teach us to number each of our days
so that we may grow in wisdom” (Psalm 90:12 God’s Word).

Never too old to learn. Never too old to serve the Tender Shepherd. Always receive the presence of God as a child.
