Last night I worked the last shift of the contract I’ve been under since September 2012. Since it was a construction contract it will never repeat. The wind turbines stand assembled across the zone. Soon these majestic giants will turn air movement into electricity. While they begin their working life, I go on to something else.
I cannot help but think of Paul writing about changes that occur spiritually.
“Therefore, put to death whatever is worldly in you: your sexual sin, perversion, passion, lust, and greed (which is the same thing as worshiping wealth). It is because of these sins that God’s anger comes on those who refuse to obey him. You used to live that kind of sinful life. Also get rid of your anger, hot tempers, hatred, cursing, obscene language, and all similar sins. Don’t lie to each other. You’ve gotten rid of the person you used to be and the life you used to live, and you’ve become a new person. This new person is continually renewed in knowledge to be like its Creator” (Colossians 3:5-10 God’s Word).
“When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child. When I became an adult, I no longer used childish ways” (1 Corinthians 13:11 God’s Word).
“Whoever is a believer in Christ is a new creation. The old way of living has disappeared. A new way of living has come into existence” (2 Corinthians 5:17 God’s Word).
Have you let Jesus make permanent changes in your life, replacing selfish and sinful behaviour with compassionate controlled living?
As the old saying goes, “If you were arrested for being a follower of Jesus, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”
1 What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought
Since Jesus came into my heart;
I have light in my soul for which long I have sought,
Since Jesus came into my heart.
Refrain:
Since Jesus came into my heart,
Since Jesus came into my heart;
Floods of joy o’er my soul like the sea billows roll,
Since Jesus came into my heart.
2 I have ceased from my wand’ring and going astray,
Since Jesus came into my heart;
And my sins which were many are all washed away,
Since Jesus came into my heart. [Refrain]
3 I’m possessed of a hope that is steadfast and sure,
Since Jesus came into my heart;
And no dark clouds of doubt now my pathway obscure,Since Jesus came into my heart. [Refrain]
4 There’s a light in the valley of death now for me,
Since Jesus came into my heart;
And the gates of the City beyond I can see,
Since Jesus came into my heart. [Refrain]
5 I shall go there to dwell in that City I know,
Since Jesus came into my heart;
And I’m happy, so happy as onward I go,
Since Jesus came into my heart. [Refrain]
