On June 24, 2012 I heard Ravi Zacharias refer to a march in Washington DC by atheists. Richard Dawkins, a scientist now better known for his hatred for religious people than for his work in physics, preached for the crowd to mock religious people intensely and at every opportunity.

Ravi challenged them to go do that in Saudi Arabia against Islam!

For my part, anyone who has no valid arguments, who is so bankrupt for ideas that the only tool for “discussion” is vitriolic humiliation, garners no respect.

Funny, in every school on the North American continent such behaviour and bullying would result in severe consequences. But national press coverage glorifies this anti-social call and the childish behaviour of a self-described rationalist. It’s insane!

So this is what the neo-atheists offer to replace religion: trashing any semblance of social morality, an ethic of legitimized emotional abuse, the abandonment of the dignity of human beings to make personal choices (and be held accountable for those choices as in Ezekiel 18), and public bigotry against a whole category of people, namely those who live in the wonder and love that God is real.

Such immorality is no different from suicide bombers who murder innocent children just to prove they are above accountability on any reasonable moral examination. True, once dead they are beyond the reach of human justice and cannot be held accountable. The neo-atheists still live, and will be held accountable for their actions, perhaps by public backlash, perhaps by some jurisdiction realizing this incitement to hatred is not free speech, but a crime. I have read already that many scientists, and even some neo-atheists, have begun to distance themselves from Dr. Dawkins.

But so much for finger-pointing. What about the religious people who abuse others, claim exclusive rights to truth for their own brand of belief and denigrate those whose spiritual experiences and service do not conform to a narrow human religious system?

Have you been set free by the love of Jesus? Or do you claim loyalty to the Saviour and then act like a devil against people who truly live for Jesus?

After all, this is what happened between Jesus and the religious elite of His day:  “So if the Son sets you free, you will be absolutely free. I know that you’re Abraham’s descendants. However, you want to kill me because you don’t like what I’m saying. What I’m saying is what I have seen in my Father’s presence. But you do what you’ve heard from your father.”
The Jews replied to Jesus, “Abraham is our father.”
Jesus told them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do what Abraham did. I am a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. But now you want to kill me. Abraham wouldn’t have done that. You’re doing what your father does.”
The Jews said to Jesus, “We’re not illegitimate children. God is our only Father.”
Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me. After all, I’m here, and I came from God. I didn’t come on my own. Instead, God sent me. Why don’t you understand the language I use? Is it because you can’t understand the words I use? You come from your father, the devil, and you desire to do what your father wants you to do. The devil was a murderer from the beginning. He has never been truthful. He doesn’t know what the truth is. Whenever he tells a lie, he’s doing what comes naturally to him. He’s a liar and the father of lies. So you don’t believe me because I tell the truth” (John 8:36-45 God’s Word).

Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). No set of facts or lies can change that!
