Jesus said that angels become happy when even one person repents and chooses to follow Jesus.

“I can guarantee that there will be more happiness in heaven over one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts than over 99 people who already have turned to God and have his approval…So I can guarantee that God’s angels are happy about one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts” (Luke 15:7, 10 God’s Word).

These verses appear at the end of the story of the sheep found on the hills and the coin found in the far corner of the house.

Now when a Christian group with a building burn their mortgage they often have a big party; they are so happy. I’ve seen Property Committees all smiles when they finally raise the money to fix the roof or a furnace. And most churches celebrate an anniversary of when they began, so happy that they still exist.

But the angels in heaven don’t care about such things. Heaven cares about the souls of God’s children.

When was the last time your group had a party because everyone had openly vowed to witness to their neighbours, and did? When was the last time someone actually accepted Jesus because of the faithfulness of the membership to obey Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20)?

Or does your group celebrate because someone, who had been baptized as a child, would be re-baptized according to denominational practice, contrary to what God says through Paul, “There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over everything, through everything, and in everything” (Ephesians 4:5-6 God’s Word, italics added)?

If you can’t submit to Jesus and do what God expects (win souls, train others to do the same, and show the kindness of God’s love to God’s children), maybe you could at least make angels happy and focus on salvation, not doctrine, survival or material things that will burn up in the end of the world.

Be honest now, what makes you happy?
